• explode: “迅速增长”，如果是“ someone explodes ”则是“发怒”的含义了。 

• be exposed to: “接触到”。 

• faculty: 大学环境下指“全体教工”，指人时则是“天赋，禀性”。 

• fail to do: “没有能够”。 

• faint: “微弱的，不明显的”。 

• fall back on: Langman Dictionary of Contemporary English 对这个短语的解释为“ to use something or depend on someone’s help when dealing with a difficult situation, especially after other methods have failed ”，根据这个英语解释我们知道词组大概的含义就是“因为没有太好的办法，所以只能 … ”。这个词组的英语解释很好的说明了看英语解释理解单词含义的意义。
