1 Many people are afraid of leaving their house because of crime. Some

think more action should be taken to prevent crime, but others think

little can be done. What is your view?

2 Nowadays people are becoming more and more greedy and selfish. We

should return to traditional values and show respect for family and

local community.

To what extent do you agree or disagree?

3 Many old buildings are protected by law because they are part of a

nation’s history. However, some people think they should be knocked down

to make way for new ones because people need houses and offices. How

important is it to maintain old buildings? Should history stand in the

way of progress?

4 Unlike many other countries, the police officers in the UK do not

carry guns. Some people think this can reduce the overall crime rate

in society. Others think this leaves the citizens unprotected. Discuss
